Blockstream warns Jade users of a sophisticated phishing scam targeting firmware updates via deceptive emails.

What to Know:
  • Blockstream alerts Jade users of phishing scam targeting hardware wallets.
  • Scam claims to be a firmware update via email.
  • Download updates only from official Blockstream channels.

Blockstream has issued a warning on August 2025 regarding a new phishing scam targeting Jade wallet users, leveraging fake update emails to lure them to malicious sites.

This scam highlights the persistent vulnerability of crypto holders, emphasizing the urgent need for robust security practices to prevent further economic loss in the sector.

Blockstream Warns of Fake Firmware Email Threat

Blockstream has raised alarms about a fake email campaign targeting users of its Jade hardware wallet. The emails falsely purport to be from Blockstream, offering nonexistent firmware updates.

Users are advised to disregard such emails as no genuine update files are ever sent through email. All official updates are available solely via Blockstream’s website or GitHub. “We do not send firmware files via email. If you received such an email, do not click any links. Only download Jade updates from blockstream.com or our GitHub.” — Blockstream Official Account, Communication, Blockstream

Potential Risks to Bitcoin Security Highlighted

The scam poses a risk to Bitcoin holdings, potentially jeopardizing the assets of unaware users. No direct VC or institutional funds have been reported lost as of the alert.

The situation has sparked discussions on improving user safety protocols. Blockchain security firms are emphasizing robust scrutiny of email sources and URLs to mitigate risks.

Historical Phishing Scams Targeting Wallet Users

Similar phishing attacks have previously targeted Ledger, Trezor, and MetaMask users, often causing significant financial losses. The frequency and sophistication of such scams is increasing.

Experts indicate that phishing is contributing to broader economic losses in the crypto sector. Past data suggest losses reaching over $3.1 billion in H1 2025 due to such malicious activities.
